You don't have to go abroad to experience an incredible holiday. There are some many brilliant places to choose in the UK that you could travel only a few miles from home and discover somewhere beautiful to stay. One thing that the UK is excellent for is countryside breaks. We have some stunning countryside, from rolling hills and mountains to coastlines and country lanes. If you would rather stay a little bit closer to home for your next holiday, you should take a look at some of the places that can offer you an unforgettable country break. Take a look at some of the possibilities.

Rutland, in the East Midlands, might be the smallest county in England, but it more than makes up for its size. It has a lot to offer, especially for nature lovers or anyone looking for a relaxing break. It's the perfect place to just spend a weekend in your Rutland Water hotel, or you can choose to go exploring. Some of the highlights of the county include birdwatching opportunities, including chances to see ospreys, stately homes and gardens, and plenty of places to walk or cycle. It's an excellent place for couples, families or even an escape on your own.
The Lake District
The Lake District was recently designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so you know it's a top place to visit. The Cumbrian national park covers more than 2,000 square kilometres, giving any visitors plenty to do. Of course, the lakes give you the option of enjoying some water-based activities, from boat rides and canoeing to swimming. It's also an incredible area for walking, and there are lots of attractions to explore too. Or you could just stay in a country cottage and enjoy the views from your temporary home while you're there.

Pembrokeshire is another national park, although this one is in Wales. The coastal area offers something for everyone, whether you want to go camping or you would much rather have a roof over your head. Popular activities in the area including walking, sea kayaking, beach activities and lots of other outdoor things to do. Pembrokeshire also has some beautiful towns and villages, as well as St Davids, which is the smallest city in Britain. Other popular places include Newport and Tenby. If you're looking for a coastal break, you can't go wrong with Pembrokeshire.

Scotland has plenty of natural landscapes to marvel at. It's not hard to find somewhere you can get away from it all. One of the best things to do is to try one of the lovely islands off Scotland's coast. Skye is always a good choice if you're looking for somewhere with lots to do, but also where you can enjoy a peaceful break. Naturally, there are plenty of outdoor activities, and Skye is an excellent place to choose if you love wildlife. You'll have your pick of hotels, hostels, B&Bs, self-catering properties or campsites.
Whether you want a long holiday or just a weekend away, these locations are great choices for countryside escapes.
