How cute does this look? Yesterday was my Mother in Laws 60th Birthday so I thought I would treat her by taking her to Robineau's Pattiserie in Darlington. I've ran out of fingers to count how many times I've been here, and I hope to visit a lot more too. The thing with Robineau's is that it's very different to anywhere else that serves Afternoon Tea, the thought that goes into the menu is so quirky and different, I would never think of putting together some of the things they do. For example they turn what you would think to be a normal eclair into something savoury, this time it was filled with pesto, sundries tomatoes and olives. And it tasted amazing. They also made a turkey and cranberry sandwich into what looked like a piece of Victoria sponge. Normally when you think of Afternoon Tea you think of finger sandwiches, a scone and some slices of different cake, this is just on a different level of quality. Initially you get brought out the savoury platter with your scones, and in all honesty there is plenty on that to fill two people comfortably. Then you normally get a cake platter that would usually come on a cake stand, however with this being Hansel & Gretel themed they had actually set the desserts out on a board in a very fairytale Christmas display. It had heads turning, and most of the restaurant looked over to see what we had been served.

So the Hansel & Gretel Christmas afternoon tea menu included:

Turkey & Cranberry Gateau

Savoury Scone with Smoked Salmon Mousse and Chives

Mini Éclair filled with a Pesto Crème Fraiche, Olives and Sun Blushed Tomatoes

Ham & Pear Chutney Finger Sandwich

*           *          *

Warm fruity scones with jam, curd and clotted cream

*           *          *

Mini Raspberry Cupcake Chocolate

“Christmas Pudding” Profiterole

Lime & Coconut Macaroon

Chocolate and Praline Lollipop

All of this including unlimited Tea or Coffee for only £18.95.

I honestly think it's such value for money, for two people your paying less than £40 and the quantity of food is more than you would get if you went to a restaurant for dinner and you would probably pay more. If your local to Darlington or passing you have to pop in, even if your in a rush they have a savoury and sweet counter that you can purchase items to take out from. And at the moment they have some stunning Christmas gifts in store.
