American Afternoon Tea at Karbon Grill.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Just looking back at these photos makes my mouth water! This is the first time I'd ever heard of an American style afternoon tea so as you can imagine I was pretty excited to see what it was all about. A few thoughts had passed my mind about what it could include, but it was pretty much a mystery. Luckily I was pleasently surprised with what I received. 
Karbon Grill is found on the site of the best football stadium in the world, the Stadium of Light. Like everything else on my blog that is my personal opinion. The restaurant is linked to the Hilton Garden Inn hotel. The venue is stunning, very simplistic and modern, I can imagine it being a great place to host party events as well as conferences. It's also very close to the city centre so easy to get to if your using public transport.

Not only was I shocked by the quality of the afternoon tea, but I was also quite shocked at the price. I found £14.50 to be very reasonable for what you got. I've known places serve less and charge nearly double that price. Also this was far from an ordinary afternoon tea, the American style really rubbed off, as it included all the American classics. Including Key Lime Pie which one of my friends predicted would be on the menu. I had never tried Key Lime Pie or Pecan Pie before, so it was great to try them in a miniature form to see if they were up my street. Of course, like pretty much every other dessert, I loved them both. However my favourite was definitely the Mississippi pud pie slices, not too rich and very moreish! So typical of me to talk about the puddings before the savoury options.

Like I've said the range of American classics was great, for the savoury selection we had a yummy mini cheese burger, although it was miniature it still had a good quality burger inside, again I could have easily eaten more than one. We then got two calzones, one had quite a spicy filling to it and the other was a simple cheese and tomato, both were lovely and I quite enjoyed the kick of the spicy one. We then had buffalo chicken wings which were just a little too hot for most people, the kind of heat that takes away all the flavour. I wasn't a massive fan of that one unfortunately! 
And finally we had cheese and pickle bites, usually I would stay clear of anything with cheese and pickle in, as it's not a combination I've ever been a fan of. But there were scrummy, I just tried one because I thought it would be rude not to, and I was really shocked that I loved them. I was super happy that I got seconds of these.

Over the last few months I've tried a few different places to eat in Sunderland, and this has definitely been up there with one of my favourites so far. You'll have to pop along and try it for yourselves, don't forget to book beforehand, would hate for you to be disappointed.
I'm hoping to pop back in in a few weeks with the other half to see if he loves it as much as I did.


Chocolate Protein Brownies recipe

 


This is my own recipe for Protein Brownies, it's a simple recipe that creates lovely gooey chocolate brownies.

Ingredients
75g Rolled Oats
75g Vanilla flavoured Whey Protein, I use MyProtein.
45g Cocoa Powder
3 Eggs
2 Large bananas
2 Tbsp Honey (Manuka if you have it)
1.5 Tsp Baking Powder
100g Chocolate Chips (Optional)

Method

Preheat oven to 160 degrees.

 


 

- Grease a 13" x 9" baking tray and line with greaseproof / baking paper.





 

 

 

 

- Add the rolled oats and protein powder into a blender and blitz until flour like.





 

 

- then add cocoa powder and blend. Once blitzed pour into a plastic bowl.




 

- Add 3 eggs, and mix together.



 

 

- Add the honey and baking powder and mix well.



 

 

- Add two fresh bananas to your blender, and blitz till it becomes a thick liquid.



 

- Add chocolate chips if using. Mix well and pour into your baking tray.



 

- Bake for 25 minutes. 
Remove from oven and allow too cool for at least 30 minutes.



 

- Cut into 12/16 pieces, I choose 16 as I feel they were a good size.

Saturday night takeaway or a night at Vujon




I am one of those people who always orders the same thing from Indian restaurants. I know what I like and I'm always worried to try new things incase they aren't as good as what I normally order. So getting the chance to try different dishes at an Indian restaurant was great for me, especially now that I've found a few dishes I would definitely order again.
So last week I headed to Vujon, Newcastle. Vujon is down by the quayside in Newcastle, and I must say I loved the feeling I got when walking up to the building. To me it didn't feel like I was walking into a restaurant, as from outside it looked more like a grand house. It just felt very welcoming.
The staff were great in Vujon, they couldn't do enough for you, which really does stand out in restaurants. When reviewing restaurant I always think the actual food only covers 50% of the review, the rest is judged by the appearance and staff. Customer service for me is a huge thing, and how that is received would be the decider as to whether I would go back or not. I can definitely say I would return to Vujon. The waiters and waitresses were very prompt and asked us regularly if we needed any more drinks or answered any questions we had. This stood out to me. Not only that but we were presented with such a large range of food, you got a good feel of what was available from the menu.
The idea of this evening was to try some of the new dishes that are being added to their evening menu and they set up a set menu for us to try, as follows:

 


 

 

 


 

 

 

 

 

 

Each and every one of the starters were beautiful, I loved them all. And as much as the Angari Tikka was quite spicy, it was also very flavoursome which was lovely. The kebab and pakora were presented lovely and tasted amazing, not too spicy and full of flavour.
With the mains, I was really shocked by the Railway lamb curry, as much as it tasted like a spicy Heinz tomato soup, it was absolutely delicious. And I would order this again and again!! The Murgh Makhani Delhi Style  tasted just like the dishes which I would typically order from an Indian takeaway which I really liked. I also really enjoyed the vegetable dish we were served as an extra, the Tarkari Handi. It tasted very flesh with just the right amount of spice. 

Unfortunately I wasn't very keen on the Matcha Ice cream we were served for dessert. I found the flavours far too strong and very sickly! Which was such a shame because I loved every other item of the menu.

If you are looking for somewhere to dine in Newcastle City Centre I would definitely recommend visiting Vujon, perfect place to eat before drinks by the quayside.

Octobers New Products ...


 

I have decided to share with you guys the new products I am using each month. And at the end of the month I will share with you my favourites.

So this month I've got a whole range of different things to try from beauty products to electronics. 

Firstly I've decided to use a new foundation, don't get me wrong I swear by Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation, however I'm fancying something a little bit lighter in coverage for my work days. So I've purchased the Clinique Superbalanced silk foundation, I've heard quite a few people rave about it so thought I would give it a try.

This next product isn't newly purchased, just newly discovered in the bottom of my make-up box. I got this Soap & Glory Thick & Fast mascara in a gift set last Christmas and completely forgot about it, and I ended up reaching for it this week when my L'Oréal mascara ran out. And so far I am loving it, I'll let you know if it keeps up the good work! 

As you may know I have been an ambassador for UFIT protein drinks for about 3-4 months now, and they've just recently released the coffee latte flavour protein drink. This instantly attracted me, due to my obsession with everything coffee, so I can't wait to incorporate this into my fitness regime. 

Also, I was super lucky to be sent the brand new Slendertone connect abs to try out, so over the next 6 weeks I'm going to be using this 5 days a week for 30 minutes. I've taken a before photo and can't wait to do a comparison when the 6 weeks are up.

As you have probably seen on my social media channels, I have been working alongside TOPSHOP on the IVYPARK AW16 Launch, and have been sent some gorgeous IVYPARK goodie. Over the next few weeks you'll be seeing my favourite piece from the collection here on my blog.

I'm not going to over bombard you with ridiculous amounts of products, these are just a handful of what I'll be using this month but they are the items that I think could build a love or hate relationship.
