My 5 steps to getting started with your journey, what ever it is you want to achieve, you can do it.
These may seem like quite basic steps to start your journey, but these are the 5 things I did to start my journey. Following these 5 simple steps will start to get you on the right track to achieve your goals. For this you will need a blank notebook, just a small one where you can record things.

1. Set yourself a goal. 


This could be to lose a certain amount of weight, to fit into a certain item of clothing or just to look good for a certain event. Make it as realistic as possible. My goal back in February 2014 was to lose 2 stone.

I also want you to take two photos, in your underwear, simply because this is where you get the best view of your body. Take a photo of you stood straight forward, and one to the side in the mirror. And save these somewhere private where only you know about them.
And then I want you to take some measurement, get a family member to do it for you, then you know there will be no cheating.
 With a tape measure, in inches measure:
- Your upper arm circumference.
- Your chest circumference (measure around the largest part of your chest.
- Your waist circumference (again from the widest part)
- The circumference around your bum, measured from the height of your pubic bone
-and the circumference of your thigh.
Note these down in your notebook, You should remeasure yourself every two weeks.
Also make a note of your weight in Lbs.
These measurements arent there to make you obsessed on your weight and size, these are for you to look back every fortnight and see how far you've come.
You'll see a change in yourself before others see it.
















2.Download Apps. 


Download MyFitnessPal App, by logging your daily intake of food, you can see how many calories you are consuming on a day to day basis. Alot of people are initially really shocked at how many they consume each day. I would ideally suggest on non-exercising days 1,900kcal for men and 1,400kcal for women is roughly the amount of calories that should be consumed. If exercising I would allow an extra 200-300kcal. This is just at the inital stage, things become a little bit more complicated as you begin to advance through. MyFitnessPal app will let you see how macros (carbs,proteins and fats) you are consuming each day, by seeing this it helps you to try and balance it out. Always try to plan your meal in advance, I find this helps me stay on track, if your in a situation where you don't know what to eat and don't have much time, you find yourself grabbing the quickest and easiest thing, and that isn't always the healthiest option.







3. Liquids! 

I swear by consuming 3 litres of water and 3-4 cups of green tea everyday, water flushes waste from your system, its crazy the amount of toxins we have in our system, and I honestly do believe drinking water does help you flush them out. Water also fills you up, I find drinking a large glass of water before a meal, helps me consume less, I probably consume 2/3 of what I would normally if I fill myself with water. Water also helps the condition of my skin, I find if I have a couple of days where I dont drink enough water, I have an awful breakout. And nobody needs that. Its also really important to stay hydrated during the beginning because you can suffer detox headaches while your body is getting used to its new pattern, water helps relieve these. Always drink a pint of water before you do anything on a morning, nasty as it sounds, but it flushes your bowel. I know some people hate water, make it abit more interesting by adding fresh fruit, it gives it a very refreshing taste. Please only use bottled or filtered water, tap water is filled with so much crap!
Green tea is a great source of antioxidants, it also contains vitamins, minerals and compounds that help encourage weight loss. It also helps boost your metabolism, which helps your burn fat off quicker. Ideally 3-4 cups a day, if you hate the taste try flavoured green tea. The peach one if my favourite!!




4. Clean eating! This was the best thing I was ever taught. If you cant kill it or pick it from the ground, dont eat it! This is a great way of cancelling out all the processed crap we eat. Try and eat fresh food instead of packaged. And brown carbs instead of white. Swap your white pasta for wholemeal, and the same with your rice. Try and cut out bread, its a huge waste of your daily carbs. You need slow releasing carbs that will last you all day. Fill yourself up with as much fresh fruit and veg as you can. And snack on nuts, rice cakes and high protein foods like cottage cheese. Search for 'Paleo' recipes online, there is so much choice.



5. Cardio.


My final step for beginning your weightloss journey is to start incorporating cardio workouts into you weekly routine. Try and start with 3-4 x 30 minute cardio sessions per week. Speed walking, jogging, cycling or rowing are great ways to start introducing exercise. As you start to find it easier start making things harder for yourself, workout more often or for long durations.




If you follow these 5 simple steps, you can begin on your weightloss journey. And as soon as you start seeing results you will be more motivated to continue, and start advancing. When you at this stage you can then decide what aspects you want introduce into your workouts, weights, circuits, classes etc.
